A Gaijin's Tale

The day started cloudy as this is the rainy season. Humid weather and mild wind is the order of the season. Went to watch The Last Samurai with the gang so as to try the new cineplex at the shopping mall and boy does the film roars....I mean rocks.

The film by Edward Zwick sure does not dissapoint albeit being less on the details. The Last Samurai takes place during the dawn of the Meiji rule in Japan after the Tokugawa shogunate fell. It is a time where old tradition are being abandonned to make way for modernization. This is the time where clashes between the old and new ways made rebellions abound.

For your information(or maybe spoilers; I'll keep it short), Tom Cruise stars as a decorated American Civil War veteran who is hired to train Japanese Imperial army on gun handling, all while still suffering from post-trauma of the previous war. However after experiencing life with the same rebels he was asked to train the army against, he is somehow moved over the old ways of the samurai.

A definite good watch indeed. Watch out for "Bob", that old geezer is my personal favourite!!
