Unexpected Anpanman

Seeing the weird fellow in the picture above might give you the impression that I'm turning into a kiddie anime freak. (HECK NO!). Just to ease your curiosity, the pastry moon look-a-like guy is Anpanman. WHO?? Well, as I have free time at home every now and then in a week because of my rather loose lecture schedule, I got the opportunity to watch this guy in his own cute anime series. Anpanman is a superhero with an "Anpan" head. Anpan is actually a type of japanese pastry with a sweet bean paste filling. Anpanman is born after Uncle Jam's Anpan bread was mixed with a fallen golden star. Anpanman tries to make the world a better place by preventing hunger by self sacrifice. In other words, he lets others eat him! Anpanman however can rejuvenate by asking Uncle Jam to re bake a new face for him.

I'm quite attracted to the fact that Anpanman has spun a quite a decade of legacy in the hearts of the Japanese people. Originally created by Yanase Takashi sensei in 1973, Anpanman is so famous that its anime series still ran until today since its launching in 1988. There is even an Anpanman Museum to complement its success.
